DIRECT MUSICAL REFERENCES ASSOCIATED WITH MEDTNER FORGOTTEN MELODIES:

Sometimes when searching for the right feeling, timing, sounds in a musical gesture, I have discovered specific repertoire associations that can make the musical material suddenly click. I find that in these examples below, the connection in my mind allowed me to feel greater physical comfort as well as more precision in the sound I was seeking in specific passages in this repertoire. I share them here as another possible pathway for your own discoveries of any piece of music, and not because they are prescriptive in any way.

Danza Festiva: (Medtner) FM - Schumann Concerto: movement III.
Ilya Itin: “When I told myself: ‘No, I am playing Schumann concerto. Now it works physically and the timing…..’
Danza Graziosa (Medtner) - Grieg Norwegian Dance, No.2. H264
